What is a fan-out?
When a user asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Mode a question, the AI doesn't pull citations out of thin air. It runs a query fan-out— internally Googling 4–12 sub-queries (the "fan-outs") and citing the pages that appear most across those SERPs.
